Hi. Welcome to Living in a Body! I’ve been busy working on my taxes this week, so today’s newsletter is just a couple important announcements. If you’re new here, check out THIS EPISODE to get a better sense of what “Living in a Body” is all about.
I’ve got a gig!
Solo Arts Heal is a series of online performance/interview shows. For each show, an artist performs 20 minutes of work that has helped them heal from some struggle in their life, whether it be their own physical or mental illness, some personal challenge, or in providing care to a loved one. The remainder of the hour-long event is an interview with the performer, focusing on the healing power of the arts.
This Wednesday night, Mar. 22 at 7:30 pm PT, (10:30 ET) that performer is me! You can WATCH HERE.
The show was founded & is produced by The Marsh, a renowned theater in San Francisco and Berkeley that focuses on new solo performances. In the words of The Marsh, Solo Arts Heal "presents empowering performances about healing and resilience. Through hosted interviews, talkbacks, and audience Q&A, the Solo Arts Heal program provides transformative experiences, education, community outreach and advocacy through stories that celebrate the healing power of the arts." (You can read more about The Marsh here: https://themarsh.org/about/).
If you can’t stay up that late, the show will be available on YouTube after the show. I hope to “see” you there. (It’s on Zoom)
Join the Chat!
Today I’m announcing a new addition to my Substack publication. It’s called the Living in a Body subscriber chat. I hope you’ll check it out. As you may know, I’m heading out for a big adventure next week. With my driver and assistant, Cameron, I’ll be visiting my daughter in Brooklyn and then heading up to Westhampton, Mass to visit my friend Peggy Munson. Peggy’s been living with severe ME/CFS since 1992. Over the course of the last two years, we’ve become kind of like brother and sister in this illness.
I’ve decided to try out this chat feature so that you might join me on the journey every step of the way. Mainly, I’ll be posting pictures along the way. But I’d love to include you in the conversation. I’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, and you can jump into the discussion.
To join the chat, you’ll either need to download the Substack app, (now available for both iOS and Android) or click the link to view online. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
If you don’t want to get the app, you can participate in the chat on the web. Let me know if you need help figuring it out.
Thank you for being here. I hope you have a great week and I hope to see you on the road! ❤️ Hal
Have a great trip, Hal!
