Oh Hal, yay indeed!! What beautiful news to wake up to. It's these moments of light that we live for—the simple joys like driving and grocery shopping, and the big, hot-damn amazing things like hopping on a plane to see Emma! So freaking awesome. Thank you for sharing this joy with all of us!

What a wonderful, positive post. I too have had a really rough two years, and just this week, I too am feeling just a little better

I wish someone would fund the kind of research of ME/CFS needed - just to better understand it, and perhaps have fewer people in medicine treat the illness as if it is a contested illness. Like you, it’s that never knowing what each day is going to bring - will I be able to get out of bed? If I get dressed, will it end up being the last thing I do for the day? How many days can I put off taking a shower?

I’m 63 and I’ve had ME for a little over 20 years. It’s a very hard place to be, so vulnerable and dependent on a part-time caretaker/homemaker, and it’s taken me a long time to learn how to ask for help. But it’s not a good time to be dependent, to rely on my SSDI & Medicaid. So I hope everyday a miracle will happen. If I could just feel a quarter as well as I did five, six years ago. What a difference that would make.

So I am thrilled to read about your good day. I felt good enough to run a couple of short errands on my own the other day, drove myself for the first time in a couple of months. It’s a wonderful feeling, even though we know it could be fine with a snap of the fingers (I was wiped out the next day, but I’m hoping to have another food day soon).

Please, I’m curious, is that a special plane ticket you got - I’d like to learn more. Much of my family is on the West coast (US) and I’m stuck down on the southeast coast. Last time I saw my siblings, I had to fly across country in a regular seat; it took days to recover enough to be company to anyone.

I hope you have a wonderful, fabulous visit to England, and that your very first visit with your long-distance special other is everything and more than you hope for. You deserve it and so does she.

God, tear in my eye reading your story.

Struggling with my own minor incapacities, it’s just amazing to me to read your stories and get your philosophy of life. I do love shopping at a grocery store too. I don’t make a habit of shopping at all anywhere else. Being 6 1/2 feet tall there’s no clothes in ordinary stores to go shop for. I’ll admit I did enjoy a couple of trips to Lowe’s to find the one arcane gadget to solve a problem.

From what I’ve heard, you WERE summer Institute for many. Great they could get an experience of you.

I pray (if I pray) this will be more than temporary. You’re a pro at managing it, so I’m sure you’ll make the best of energy.

Carry on, we love you .

In peace, JIm

So glad you are feeling better and going to visit Emma! I do have to say, I really thought it was gong to turn out that Hallie's mom was trying to get your attention because your wheelchair was hanging off your car or something. Maybe I'm a suspicious reader, or maybe you were putting in a little suspense about what your exciting news was (which I guessed) and I projected the suspense onto the car!
