Oh boy… I’m not doing the birthday comment yet… this is about the trestle.

This is a little talked about story because I feel ridiculous when it comes up but let me just beg you never to do the trestle thing again even though you have before… and that’s because quite a few years ago, a certain someone and I got the idea to go take some photos up there and I was assured that trains never use those tracks. I questioned that I thought something was using those tracks at some point after being up there 15 minutes (you can’t necessarily-often can’t- tell like you think you would) and was assured again but I felt the tiniest tremors or something and a sense of unease and said I’m heading down… so I did and I got to below the tracks and the certain someone ended up jumping down and that’s when we got gravel bits thrown at us as a train on the “unused” tracks grinded overhead on the tracks we’d just been photographing. Foolish and embarrassing and harrowing are how I’d describe this experience!

So I’m begging you and anyone else who gets the idea from your post…. Don’t do it. Even though you obviously were here to tell the story, I read with baited breath and trepidation very much thinking of that story from years ago with dread. It may be that I should count that as one of my nine lives so to speak too. 😅

Take care and happy birthday weekend from me and a certain someone! 🥳🎈💝

That was an awesome little adventure, Hal, with a very nice musical accompaniment. I wish I could play the piano like you do! Thanks for the tour, and happy bonus decade to you!

Hi Hal. It was really good to see you today and hope it's not too much longer before you get to see me and my family. I really enjoyed today's video and am glad you shared one of your really good days with us. Because I don't trust myself to follow through tomorrow I'm going to wish you a happy end to 56 years of life today and happy wishes to you as you begin your next year tomorrow. As I've told you a hundred times, your music is always in our house whether it be me or Suzan playing your albums or Connor playing your music on the piano and guitar. I don't think you'll ever really know what an important, wonderful, meaningful and fun impact you've had and still have on my family. Wishing you all the best. John

Happy birthday my friend!

I'm sorry I missed your day. By coincidence Jo Anne and I had taken our bikes into Kent that beautiful Wednesday this past week. It felt like spring.

Wonderful to see the sun on your face and your smile.

It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since that sad day. It's a reminder how tenuous our hold is on this life.

I wish you happiness and more energy this next trip around the sun!

Fritz and Jo Anne.

Happy birthday Hal! And Happy Bonus Life to you! As I watched this episode, I kept realizing that I was smiling. Seeing you smiling and enjoying life, despite what you are going through, just put a smile on my face. Thank you for continuing to inspire us all. And yes, even in Ohio, sunnier days are coming...literally. But even more, I continue to hope and pray that sunnier days are coming to you personally.

I have a book with a literary quote for each year:

“Fifty-seven; it’s a critical age... Desire is much the same as it ever was, - but satisfaction brings in it’s revenges.” Hjalmar Söderberg, Doctor Glas

I hope the satisfaction of your desire to climb up to the trestle didn’t bring you any revenges. Happy birthday!

Hi hal, happy trestle birthday, happy bonus days. Keep giving us your gifts of how to climb against the odds. At my age the odds are not in my favor, but I keep looking for those small opportunities to beat them. It’s working.
